Akatron - Vol.1

FE DJ Ten has a knack for composing interesting and catchy synthwave, and he's become known for his ability to smoothly, effectively and boldly blend different styles, influences and genres into his core mix of retro synth, and his first two albums exemplified this loud and clear. Retrological and R2.0 showed me how amazingly versatile the synthwave genre could be, but Akatron 1 showcases how good DJ Ten is at composing more purely distilled, straight-up shots of synthwave. Favorite track: Double Jeopardy.

kmxexii Akatron bridges the gap for people who might be more in tune with straight-lace synthwave. The beats are still here - and how! - but this album is more about DJ Ten's ability to make solid songs than his vibrant experimentation. Tracks like "Pingu" (my favorite) have the beat while outrun appears as "Neptune", "X-Claw" and "X Academy", the last of which has some delightful theremin-like synth work sounding even more retro than Retrological, similar to Zioneon's homages to sci-fi. Favorite track: Pingu.
